The NMMC goes an extra mile to stay connected with the residents through their innovative internet-radio, the first of it’s kind for a civic body in the entire country

Navi Mumbai: The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) recently launched an innovative and one of a kind internet radio service ‘Swachh Radio Navi Mumbai‘ in a bid to reach out to the masses and increase general awareness about the ongoing Covid-19 crisis.

The innovative internet-radio service puts NMMC at the top pedestal making it the only municipal corporation in the entire country to have ever launched such a service.

NMMC’s ‘Swachh Radio Navi Mumbai’: Internet radio for awareness
(L) NMMC Commissioner Annasaheb Missal & (R) Mayor Jaywant Sutar launching the Swachh Radio Navi Mumbai service on Monday, 6th April, 2020

NMMC Commissioner, Annasaheb Misal, shares, “The Swachh Radio Navi Mumbai initiative is just a step towards the long term relationship that the corporation wishes to build and maintain with the local residents. This is just the beginning and we wish to take it forward to stay connected with the people even after the crisis has abated.”

For now, with Covid-19 being the major crisis, the radio network will be used to broadcast recorded messages twice a day, once between 12:00 pm and 12:30 pm and later in the evening between 6:00 pm and 6:30 pm. It would include information about the preventive measures to be taken to stop the disease from spreading in the community, the number of cases in various localities, location of open markets, important helplines, hospitals and isolation centres for coronavirus patients and other patients and other important information about government programmes that are in place to tackle the situation.

The Swachh Radio Navi Mumbai network can be accessed through the website www.swachhradionavimumbai.com that displays a play button for messages to be read out. The official Swachh Radio Navi Mumbai App will be available for downloading within a fortnight.

The organization behind this innovative offering is Global Green Innovators Pvt. Ltd., a creative and idea sharing platform for Government organisations and NGOs as well as private sector companies. It is run by some young and dynamic individuals like Jaspal Sing Naol, a journalist and social activist, Binoy K. Nikhil M, Devendra Singh, Pushkraj Mhatre and Macchindra Patil all belonging to the diverse social fields in their individual capacities.

Jaspal Singh Naol, co-founder of the organisation, shares, “The NMMC is a farsighted organization, ready to take initiatives that benefit the people and so they were more than enthusiastic to collaborate when we proposed the internet-radio network to them. Surprisingly, they shared the same visions that we had for the project and so we went forward with the collaboration under the guidance of Tushar Pawar, Deputy Municipal Commissioner.”

Talking about future plans, Naol informs, “This Swachh Radio Navi Mumbai project is not limited to just the Covid-19 crisis but has a far more futuristic application. We, along with the NMMC, wish to develop it extensively into a 24×7 network to run skill development programmes, provide a platform for local performances, local art, cultures, festivals, artists and much more.”

Other collaborating organisations include yet another dynamic organization known as the Heart Foundation, spearheaded by Dr. Jayakar Ellis, a renowned social worker and motivational speaker. Coming next is Regro Digital, spearheaded by Rakesh Shrivansh, the person behind the technical aspect of the ‘Swachh Radio’ network.

Birds of Prey: Harley Quinn is the funny “Joker” for all the women who seek emancipation!

by VickyTM March 18, 2020
written by VickyTM

Birds of Prey is the first ever emancipation of a female comic-book character in a first of a kind movie written and directed by women and centering upon women. Harley Quinn, comes full force on the oppressing world of male villains!

Birds of Prey: Harley Quinn is the funny “Joker” for all the women who seek emancipation!
© DC Films

Like we said earlier, there are a lot of ‘women’ in ‘Birds of Prey’, so much that we could have actually called it a ‘super heroine’ movie. In a way, it was! Written by a woman, directed by a woman, centering upon the transformation of a lovesick woman into one independent ass-kicking woman, being helped by another couple of women along the way! Ahh! An ode to (ass-kicking) womanhood! Men (super heroes), beware!

So what is the plot of Birds of Prey in short?

In the very beginning of the movie it is established that Harley Quinn and her beloved Joker have had a mutual separation and Harley has to fend off all the evil that will be coming her way, on her own. She is chased throughout the city by her adversaries who just want to kill her at any cost. Now here is the interesting part – being hunted down doesn’t mean she is the damsel in distress. In fact, Harley doesn’t look like she is ever in distress, a little dejected at times though, but never distressed. On the contrary, she is the one causing all the distress to her adversaries, always coming out unscathed of every deadly encounter she has during the movie. And she has a funny and maniacal way of dealing with such incidents to keep things interested. It is as if we are inside a comical world where the main character can never be killed or defeated. Harley Quinn is almost invincible!

Who’s the villain in Birds of Prey?

Like you must have guessed, there is no Joker in the movie. Well, he couldn’t have been here for obvious reasons – DC can’t play two jokers, now that one has won back their dominance in Hollywood. So we can say goodbye to Jared Leto’s Joker forever! So instead of ‘J’, we have Ewan McGregor as Roman or the Black Mask (although he wears it just once in the movie), a crime lord who, at times, looks more desperate to establish himself as the baddest guy in Gotham. Nevertheless, he is the one who still manages to scare his adversaries including Harley, who, for some reason is scared too.

Who, apart from Harley, are the Birds of Prey?

There are four other women who assist Harley in her quest against ‘men’.

Cassandra Cain

An orphan called Cassandra Cain, played by Ella Jay Basco, living with quarrelsome foster parents, and having a knack for pickpocketing (it is nothing less than magic seeing her pick pockets, bracelets and other things with such dexterity). Now her pickpocketing habits are never justified and when she pockets a ‘priceless diamond’ from the main antagonist’s partner and henchman, you will feel like giving her a scolding of a lifetime (and beating too).

Dinah Lance

Moving forward, the other bird is Dinah Lance, played by Jurnee Smollett-Bell, a singer in Roman’s (Black Mask) club, and is also called the Black Canary. Now she has a sweet spot for Cassandra for being a little damsel in distress and so has to jump in when she realizes what the ignorant bird has done and the danger that awaits her.

Renee Montoya

An angry police detective called Renee Montoya played by Rosie Perez, who is dejected looke down upon by her department, doesn’t get recognition, is Hulk-angry, wants a piece of Roman and is a friend (for her part) of Dinah.

Helena Bertinelli

Coming next we have Helena Bertinelli or the ‘Huntress’, a self-proclaimed hitman, who is on a killing spree after her family gets murdered by another crime lord who also happens to be connected to Roman in a way. So we have these four, along with Harley, who has brought the chaos to the front door leaving no other choice but to team up. They name themselves the Birds of Prey at the end of the movie!

So, did Birds of Prey come close to kicking some real ass?

Well, as ‘Birds of Prey’ is all about the emancipation of ‘Harley Quinn’, the plot is all about ‘Harley Quinn’. To add some weight to it, the story begins with a post-breakup prologue by Harley and how she deserves and intends to get over it and make space for her own dreams (or psychopathic fancies). Also, post breakup, she finds herself at the mercy of those who are now determined to get rid of her for a whole lot of reasons, one being out of the league of the maniacal “J” as we call him. So there is utter chaos around with people coming in from just about anywhere and Harley trying to keep herself safe. While doing so, she also brings together another bunch of badass women who feel just about as exploited, discriminated and despised (for being women) like Harley. The result – a killer team. All that follows is a sadistic homicidal quest of power, with Harley leading the way, for the maniac she is.

How engaging is the plot of Birds of Prey?

For most of the part, the movie has nothing like an engaging plot and everything just goes about in a sort of chaotic and unorganized manner, just like the lives of those portrayed in the movie. However, it is justified in the realization that it is a movie about ‘One Harley Quinn’, and remains true to it throughout the movie. All the characters, the tiny sub-plots (if we can call them so), the action scenes, the thrills and the comical gimmicks are all aimed at leveraging a single character alone and it does that satisfactorily – all you will remember from this movie will be Harley Quinn! Job done well for DC by the director, Cathy Yan, and screenwriter, Christina Hodson. In every way possible, the movie manages to look like a comic book – captions, voice-overs, flashbacks, animated interludes and not to forget the musical fight sequences that make them worth watching.

Is Birds of Prey: And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn a superhero movie?

To be frank, there are no characters having actual super powers in Birds of Prey, except for the supersonic scream by Black Canary once in the movie. Else than that, it is only a movie with women having super heroine abilities. It is more of a comical real time action with a lot of madness as compared to the fictitious clash of super powers and non-human abilities.

Why should you watch Birds of Prey?

You should watch Birds of Prey if you are a DC fan, if you like Margot Robbie or fancy seeing Harley Quinn from Suicide Squad in action again, if you fancy the thought of watching empowered women characters hitting back at their adversaries or becoming one yourself, are tired after endlessly watching caped superheroes fight off Thanos or like to see somewhat humanly possible action with a dose of craziness. For those who enjoy the wild side watch it for the comical violence and swearing, classy outfits (Harley’s) and the rising of a ‘bad’ character who will fight off all the ‘bad’ characters in Gotham and beyond in the movies that will follow.

What do we have to say about Birds of Prey?

We have already said a lot, but still, we would like to add that it is one of the best movies by DC recently after disasters like Justice League. Birds of Prey, attempts to follow in the success of Joker by appealing to the emotions and characteristics of the masses – everyone is crazy in a way, feminism is the ‘buzzword’ since some time, the afflicted seek retribution in one way or another and above all Harley Quinn is fantabulous!

P.S. We have written this article months after the movie actually came out but who cares, read it nevertheless and watch the movie if you still haven’t or watch it again!

Shooting for The 100 Season 7 has finally been wrapped up with emotions running high among the cast and crew of the series that had made it’s debut in March, 2014.

The 100 Season 7 Shooting Wrapped Up, Would Premiere in May, 2020

The 100 season 7 has been completely shot and the series is finally going to end it’s magical journey of six years with a grand finale that suits it well. The producers wrapped the shooting of the final episode of the series with the cast and crew giving their best to what is being said to be the grandest climax for a series this popular and better than many movies.

The cast of The 100 did not keep their emotions just to themselves but took to social media as they reminisced their wonderful journey and tried putting their feelings in as little words as possible as TvGuide shared.

Those who expressed their emotions were Bob Morley, who plays Bellamy, Lola Flanery, who plays Madi, Marie Avgeropoulos, who plays Octavia, Luisa D’Oliveira, who plays Emori, Sachin Sahel, who plays Jackson, Kim Shumway, Executive producer and Jason Rothenberg. All of them took to twitter tweeting messages that expressed their feelings as they wrapped up the series.

Needless to say, fans got emotional reading the tweets as well and now await to see the final season of the series.

The 100 season 7 release date and total episodes

The 100 Season 7 will premiere on Wednesday, 20 May, 2020, and will have 16 episodes, taking the number of episodes in the entire series to ‘100’!

A prequel to The 100, titled ‘Anaconda’, will be coming soon

Fans already know that though season 7 will mark the end of The 100 saga, it will also introduce them to a whole new saga set before The 100. The prequel series title ‘Anaconda’ will be a backdoor pilot, airing during the final season of the series. So while they will be saying goodbye to their beloved characters, they will be making way for some new characters who will be taking them on another magical journey, much like The 100 did six years ago.

The 100 Season 7: A race to finish off the grand finale amid coronavirus fears

As fans wait in anticipation for the airing of the 7th and final season of “The 100”, the cast and crew recommit themselves to finishing off shooting amid the growing threat of the global pandemic

The 100 Season 7 A race to finish off the grand finale amid coronavirus fears

The final season of The 100, one of the most popular series of CW, is in the making and while work seems to be in progress, it has been under pressure as the novel coronavirus sweeps country after country. The dilemma is shared by many production houses who have already postponed the release dates of their upcoming movies or have stopped filming till global conditions become better.

However, the producers of The 100 have geared up to finish the shooting of the series, which only has a little bit remaining, before the entire cast and crew is relieved and sent back. The emotions are running high for the entire cast as they are just about to wrap up the series and say good bye to the joyride that they have been together since the series premiered six years ago on March 19, 2014.

The ending of season 7 may also hint at a prequel to the wonderful experience that The 100 has been for millions of fans around the world. Though it would not be able to replace the memories The 100, it would at least give a sense of belonging to the fans.

So what can be expected from The 100 Season 7?

For those who are still new to the series, season 7 of The 100 is going to be the final season of the series and hence is going to be grand in every manner. There is a lot that remains to be known or answered from season 6 and the curiosity it had aroused among fans.

The 100 Season 7 will look forward to clear doubts or even confuse things further as fans wait to know what happened to Octavia and did if really died when a grown up version of Hope stepped out of the anomaly and seemed to have known Octavia since long and then for some reason stabbed her to death, or disappearance?  Will The 100 return with a time jump? Is time travel on the cards? Is Sheidheda gone for good or is he still out there? Will there be a prequel to the series (that we have mentioned at the beginning of the article)? All these and many more revelations will be made when The 100 Season 7 is finally aired.

Talking about airing, if the shooting proceeds as promised then it will be premiere in the month of May, as TV Guide shares in a very informative article: The 100 Season 7: Premiere Date, Spoilers, Episode Count, Casting, and More

The number of COVID-19 cases in Maharashtra have grown with new cases being confirmed recently.

Update: 31 COVID-19 cases confirmed in Maharashtra

Schools, Colleges, Malls and other public places shut till 31st March amid growing coronovirus cases in Maharashtra

Disney’s Mulan, New Mutants and Antlers won’t be released as scheduled, amid coronavirus fears

Movie goers will have to wait a little longer for Disney’s much awaited and biggest release of the year and live-action remake “Mulan”, starring Liu Yifei and directed by Niki Caro, amid growing fear surrounding coronavirus. With China being at the epicenter of both the disease and the release of the movie, things seem bleak as far as the release is concerned . Initially scheduled to be released on 27th March, 2020, the release date has now been pushed further to an indefinite date, variety informed.

Mulan, made on a budget exceeding 200 million dollars, is a very important movie for Disney this year and expectations have been very high for a spectacular opening at theatres around the world. Ironically, the biggest hopes have been from the Chinese territory as the movie depicts one of the biggest stories from the history of China. Although Disney had not fixed a date for the movie’s release in China, it is obvious that it won’t be a wise decision to release it as planned, with China struggling to get back on it’s feet and defeat the novel virus.

The second Disney movie to be postponed is “The New Mutants”, the jinxed new phase of the X-Men universe (If we can call it so). Scheduled to be released on 3rd April, 2020, after being delayed for over three years, the movie is postponed yet again. Frankly, the movie and the horror-plot it revolves around has already lost it’s shine for being delayed for so long and being delayed yet again just adds to it’s woes.

The third movie that Disney has postponed is yet another horror movie “Antlers” directed by Scott Cooper. The movie is yet another parcel that came along with the acquisition of 21st Century Fox and was scheduled to be released on 17th April, 2020. The anticipation around the movie has been good so far as fans await to see how the movie based on Nick Antosca’s short story “The Quiet Boy” turns out to be.

The next big movie for Disney this year is “Black Widow” as it is supposed to kick start Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and is scheduled to be released on 1st May, 2020. A lot of anticipation is built around the movie as it would shape the way MCU would move forward henceforth.

Disney, as well as other production houses that have postponed their movies, now hope, that the coronavirus crisis ends soon.

Navi Mumbai: The Navi Mumbai International Airport may still get delayed as GVK, the majority shareholder has asked the City and Industrial Development Corporation of Maharashtra Ltd. (CIDCO), who holds 26 % of equity in the SPV—Navi Mumbai international airport limited (NMIL), to hand over a fully vacant land to begin construction work.

Since 2018, CIDCO has cleared 97% of the land, demolishing all structures but the land is yet to be encumbrance free, as the Mumbai international airport limited (MIAL) that has 74% equity in the SPV-NMIAL that will develop the airport, had demanded recently.

Apparently, the SPV has not yet issued the work order to L&T.

GVK has informed that work won’t commence unless encumbrance free land was handed over just like in the case of Bengaluru and Hyderabad airports. GVK had constructed the Bengaluru airport.

In the meanwhile, MIAL has informed that it will issue work order only when the entire airport land was vacated and handed over.

Officials at CIDCO informed that though they were positive about vacating the airport land in entirety, there was a provision in the agreement that allowed simultaneous development work during the process of eviction.

Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray asks the environment department to look into the destruction of Uran wetlands

by Staff Reporter February 23, 2020
written by Staff Reporter

Navi Mumbai / Uran: Maharashtra Chief Minister, Uddhav Thackeray, has asked the environment department to look into the alleged destruction of Uran wetlands, responding to the the hue and cry of environmentalists in the area.

Responding promptly to the situation, Thackeray has asked the authority to look into the destruction of mangroves and wetlands in Uran, namely at Pagote, Bhendkhal and Panje. The administration had already lodged police cases against unidentified persons under the Environment Protection Act, 1986.

Also, Panje is marked as a marshy land belonging to the state government in the official records of land acquisition by the revenue department. It has been a fishing site for locals since ages. Surprisingly, CIDCO had recently announced that Panje wetland had been transferred to a private corporate firm in the year 2004. An RTI application had further revealed that parts of Panje wetlands had been leased to the NMSEZ.

The flow of creek water to Panje had been blocked turning it into a dry land and even a huge concrete wall was erected. The Mangrove and Wetlands committees appointed by the high court had asked CIDCO to ensure the flow of water to the wetland and also to protect Panje as it had all the characteristics of a wetland.

The wetland committee had asked CIDCO to restore Bhendkhal wetland and remove the landfill but nothing had been done till now.

While this continues, there is an ongoing crisis at Seawoods where environmentalists are trying hard to save the wetlands, where the development authority plans to construct a Golf Course Integrated Project.

Now environmentalists and locals hope that CM Uddhav Thackeray understands the situation and directs the concerned authorities to stop the exploitation of the wetlands for financial pursuits.

Activists irked as CIDCO omits Board Resolutions from website

by Staff Reporter February 15, 2020
written by Staff Reporter

Navi Mumbai/ CBD-Belapur: City activists and citizens are irked as the City and Industrial Development Corporation of Maharashtra Limited (CIDCO) has ceased publishing board resolutions on their website. Questions are being raised on the intent of such a move.

Apparently activists are angered by the development authority’s move to hide such important details from the citizens as they are affected by it in one way or another. An attempt to enquire about such decision under Section 4 of the RTI Act too did not avail any response from CIDCO.

Just to brief readers a bit, CIDCO’s Board Resolution meetings are decisive meetings and developments ranging in areas like roads, environment, railway stations, the new airport and other such work.

Citizens are now awaiting a formal response from CIDCO on a move that lacks transparency.

Oscars 2020 Winners: Best Picture, Best Actor, Best Actress and More

by VickyTM February 10, 2020
written by VickyTM
Much to the everyone’s surprise, Parasite won the best picture award, actress Renée Zellweger made a huge comeback and won the best actress award and everyone’s favourite this year, Joaquin Phoenix, took away the award for best actor.
Oscars 2020 Winners: Best Picture, Best Actor, Best Actress and More
Clockwise: Joaquin Phoenix, Bong Joon-ho, Brad Pitt and Renée Zellweger

With or without a host, the 92nd Academy Awards was an event that didn’t fail to entertain and impress movie lovers around the world. Though simply steered by the presenters who came out to give away the Oscars, the show still had it’s nail biting moments as some movies performed as expected while some beyond expectations.

1917, everyone’s favourite for the best picture award, didn’t fail to impress by winning 3 awards – Best Visual Effects, Best Cinematography and Best Sound Mixing. However, it did not win the Best Picture award as a far better and impressive film emerged as winner.

Parasite by Bong Joon-ho, stole the show and won 4 awards – Best original screenplay, International feature film, Best director and surprisingly the Best Picture award. The overjoyed cast and crew of the movie remarked that they had thought that the awards function was wrapped up for them after the Best International Feature Film award. Also, Parasite now became the first ever international film to win an Oscar for Best Film. The South Korean film was the first foreign-language movie to win the top award. It also won best director, best international film and best original screenplay.

The award that turned out as everybody had predicted and hoped for and were waiting eagerly (including us) was that of the Best Actor, given out to Joaquin Phoenix! What a pleasant moment that turned out to be. He deserved it for all that he had given to the character of ‘Joker’ and we had written earlier why he had to win the award. You can read the article here in case you missed it: Will Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker laugh at the Oscars

(We had hoped the same for Scarlett Johansson for her double nominations but the decision makers made the right choice by giving away the Best Actress award to Renée Zellweger.)

Renée Zellweger won the Best Actress award for her impressive portrayal of Judy Garland in the film ‘Judy’ and she totally deserved it. She has proved that her acting skills have only improved with her ageing but are touching new heights. Now this is one accomplishment she will surely note down in ‘Bridget Jones’ Diary’.

Brad Pitt won the award for Best Supporting Actor for his role of stuntman Cliff Booth in Tarantino’s ‘Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood’ and during his acceptance speech, made a funny remark on Trump’s impeachment trials and how the Senate voted against the allowing of witnesses.

He remarked, “They told me I only had 45 seconds up here, which is 45 seconds more than the Senate gave John Bolton this week. I’m thinking maybe Quentin (Tarantino) does a movie about it and in the end the adults do the right thing.”

Laura Dern won her first ever Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role of Nora Fanshaw, a tough and blunt divorce attorney, after being nominated twice in the past, for Best Actress Best Supporting Actress. A visibly overjoyed and emotional Dern couldn’t help praising her parents and also role models, “Some say, never meet your heroes. I say if you’re really blessed, you get them as your parents,” she said emotionally. She further added, “I share this with my acting legends, my heroes, Diane Ladd and Bruce Dern. You’ve got game. I love you.”

There were some well-deserved wins in the other nominations as well this year and below is a complete list of Oscar 2020 Winners.
