NMMC suspends 2 engineers in Vashi FOB collapse case

by Staff Reporter April 20, 2019
written by Staff Reporter

Navi Mumbai / Vashi: The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has taken two engineers to task and suspended them after an internal inquiry into the recent foot over-bridge collapse at Vashi Mini Seashore.

NMMC municipal commissioner, Ramaswami N, informed that the engineers, deputy engineer Yeshwant Kapse, and junior engineer Vishal Suryawanshi, had been suspended for negligence. They were meant to ensure that the repairs had started immediately after the work order was handed out to a contractor in the month of March.

However, residents and activists are not entirely happy with the punishment and believe that the administration may have saved the face of senior engineers by putting the blame on junior engineers. The NMMC has ensured that the matter had been investigated thoroughly and was still being investigated and that those punished were the only ones to be blamed for the negligence caused.

Surprisingly, just a few months ago, the NMMC had communicated with the residents saying that all the FOBs in the city were safe. That creates doubts about whether the bridge that collapsed was either ignored or not properly inspected.

In the meanwhile a team of experts from IIT-Bombay has been assigned with the job to analyse the current condition of the metal bridge to decide whether to repair it or replace it completely.

Why you should wear light clothes in summer

by Staff Reporter April 10, 2019
written by Staff Reporter
Image used for representational purpose

The fact is that when clothes absorb more heat, they become hotter and when they absorb less heat, they become cooler.

As proved, light-colored, lightweight and loose-fitting clothes suit summers in every manner as they reflect heat and hence are cooler. Dark clothes absorb the heat of the sun and actually turn into heating materials. The darker the colour the hooter the effect.

Best clothing material in summers

Cotton is the most preferable material during summers as it is breathable material. Similarly, linen is also a good material as it absorbs sweat and dries quickly.

Type of clothing you should wear in summers

The clothes should be loose and allow flow of air as such clothes tend to remain cool compared to tight clothes.

5 things we love summers for

by Staff Reporter April 10, 2019
written by Staff Reporter
Apart from the assurance that the rains are on their way, the summers brings things that no other season brings and we love them like anything.
Planning the day and sticking to the plan

Planning the day and sticking to the plan

Well, we all make plans but never follow them. However, summers don’t let us do that. They force us to plan our days according to the heat. So we have a set time for waking up, exercising, travel schedules and all such things as the all-powerful sun doesn’t allow any straying from the plan of the day. So, we fit into the best time table that we can think of during the summers.

We get to (have to) drink a lot

Well, yes you know that everyone drinks during the summers. That is one thing that summers make us do – drink, drink and drink! And why not? It is in our best interests after all. So no matter, how much burdensome we find drinking adequate water, we have to drink it during the summers. Water is the best thing available for hydrating the body and the summers know that well. Drink water and water alone.

Bathing and all that we can do in the water

Now, we do take a shower everyday throughout the year but the thing is – we never cherish the bath anytime in the year as much as we do during the summers. For us, nothing compares to a cold shower in the sweltering summer days. Apart from that, we find beaches most tempting and even dipping in swimming pools or even kiddie pools in somebody’s backyard. Even ponds with clean waters look good (though we have to be careful).

Wearing what we like

We just get to wear the bare minimum. Trust us! Nobody’s bothered with what you are wearing during the summers as we are all sailing in the same ship. Wearing light is the mantra for summers and everything looks trendy.

Spending quality time with the family

Well, summers mean vacations for the kids and being home more often for the grown-ups as nobody wants to roam around in the hot sun apart from work. So it is like a fun event everyday as all tend to stay indoors as much as possible and even when they go out, they all go for a fun vacation together.

How summers can bring health benefits

How summers can bring health benefits

by Staff Reporter April 10, 2019
written by Staff Reporter

Though the heat can be overwhelming during the summers, there can be some health benefits too.

It is fruits for all

Well, summers is the time when many fruits are available and people have the most persistent urge to eat them. As doctors say, we need five portions of fruit and vegetables every day and summers make us do that. Some fruits that are high in vitamin c and antioxidants that help keep diseases such as cancer away. Some of the fruits are blackcurrants and strawberries and even amla.

The increased body temperature doesn’t let us consume high calorie foods that are sugary and fatty so it means low calories.

2. Skin Health

The sun can provides therapeutic benefits to the skin just before the skin turns red due to scorching. It is better to walk in the sun a bit rather than sit in one place under direct exposure. Many skin disorders that are caused by an over-sensitive immune system that can be reduced by UV rays as many dermatologist exert.

A controlled exposure to the UV rays can benefit a lot.

3. An increase in physical agility

Many exercise routines work best in the summers as the feel good factor due to sunlight and the light clothes make the best combination to sweat it out.

People with arthritis feel more energetic and devoid of pain during the summers owing to the warmness.

Besides, the heat helps reduce the span of exercise as a lessened time of exercise gives the required output naturally by burning up more calories than in any other weather.

4. Adequate hydration of the body

People tend to drink a lot during the summers irrespective of whether they like it or not. It is a natural urge and they have to go with it. This leads to proper hydration of the body and entailing benefits.

The increased water intake boosts many chemical processes in the body helping the cells to function properly. Further, it improves digestion, helps regulate body temperature, flushes out toxins from the body and boosts the health of the skin.

However, at least two litres should be consumed every day to get the best results as you need more to sweat out during the summer.

5. Proper circulation

The warmness of summer helps in proper circulation of blood as the blood vessels enlarge, allowing blood to circulate better. This ensures adequate supply of oxygen and hence enhanced metabolism.

Make all civic buildings fire-safe: NMMC

Navi Mumbai:  The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has pulled up their sleeves to ensure that all civic building in their region are fire-safe. They recently issued a circular directing their staff to ensure that all their civic buildings had recent fire certifications. They also included 73 of their municipal school buildings in the directive.

Apparently, the circular came after an RTI was filed by an RTI activist, seeking knowledge about the present fire-safety conditions of all the civic structures in the city.

Ravindra Patil, the additional municipal commissioner, NMMC, informed that they were concerned about the fire safety in all their official buildings and that a circular had been sent directing all staff to ensure there was no loop holes and that all safety parameters were in place.

India today has once again taken a giant leap and entered the domain of its name as an elite space power. The country’s anti-satellite weapon, A-SAT, successfully struck down a live satellite on a low earth orbit within 3 minutes of it’s launch under their operation ‘Mission Shakti’.

Now, India is the 4th such country to achieve such status apart from US, Russia and China.

PM Modi assured that the new prowess was for the strengthening of the nation and not a step against anyone.

Hare Krishna Pav Bhaji Centre: Cheap and Tasty Pav Bhaji in Kharghar

by Staff Reporter March 24, 2019
written by Staff Reporter

Well, before you start searching it on the internet let us tell you – it is not on food ordering apps and there are no paid reviews too. So you won’t find any information online (aren’t you glad that we did it for you guys?).

So where is it?

It was a roadside “thela” (now don’t say that you don’t know what a thela is. Still if you insist – it was a roadside food cart) right outside the open market located at Valley Shilp society, and opposite Swapnapurti society in sector 36, Kharghar, that has now shifted to a tidy small shop in Valley Shilp (that’s progress!).

How old is it?

Well, we started eating here since two months back and they seem to be here three of four months before that.

Who runs it?

Well, a lovely Maharashtrian couple along with their two kids (Okay, all you child labour advocates, the kids go to school and help their parents in their business too.) is running it in the best possible manner.

Strong points…

The staff’s behaviour:

Well, as said earlier, it is managed by the couple and so they are all we have for staff. Talking about their behavior – they make every customer feel at home, greeting them the moment they visit the cart. And they never fail to take reviews from the customers at least twice, once when they are half way through and when they pay up. Now how many do that at restaurants? (We hope they continue doing that in the coming years too when they expand – we know they will!)

The ambience…

Well, given the fact that it is a food cart out in the open, you have a natural ambience to look at with daily life going around you. As it is open during the evenings, you get to see a variety of people around you going around for a stroll, sitting and chatting around the stall, kids playing around and other such things.

The food:

Now, the pav bhaji that they serve is tasty like we have said with a different taste to it and also cheap (costing Rs 55 per plate and Rs 60 if you want a takeaway).

We have been eating around a lot but have not found such taste in some of the restaurants in the vicinity too. So that should say it all. You will have to taste it to believe it.

Location:             Valley Shilp CHS, Sector 36, Kharghar

Timing:                5pm to 10.00pm

Rates:                   Rs 55 for a plate | 60 for a takeaway

Panvel City Municipal Corporation plans drive to confine stray pigs

by Staff Reporter March 20, 2019
written by Staff Reporter

Panvel / Navi Mumbai / PCMC: The Panvel City Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has pulled up their sleeves to tackle all stray problems affecting the residents in their region. Recently, they initiated a drive against the feeding of pigeons at public places and now they are coming up with a plan to confine all stray pigs roaming the streets of the city, spreading filth as they go about on their daily exploits for food.

They have issued a notice under section 294 of the Maharashtra Municipal Corporation Act, which clearly mentions that birds and animals cannot be fed in public areas as they create sanitation issues for all the filth and clutter they tend to create.

The PCMC chief, Ganesh Deshmukh’s orders have been supported by the Supreme Court’s order that upheld the lower court order against feeding birds within residential societies.

The drive now extends from just prohibiting residents from feeding pigeons in public places to letting pigs loiter in the open in search for food.

Also read: PCMC tells residents to stop feeding pigeons in public and residential areas

Officials informed that a census of pigs is round the corner and once done, owners will be made aware of the public notice. Any owner who is found in violation of the notice will be fined Rs 500 as a first time offender and Rs 1000 for the second time. Although the notice simply prohibits feeding animals and birds in public the civic body will also be prohibiting pig owners from letting them out to look for food.

In recent times, there has been increased problems in several civic areas, especially in Kharghar, owing to the feeding of pigeons in public places and stray pigs doing the rounds of the public areas.

Kharghar ward officer, Bhagwan Patil, informed that they had included yet another spot in sector 20 for daily vigil, besides Hiranandani and sector 12. He further informed that the campaign had been giving good results and so far no offenders had been spotted.

by Staff Reporter March 19, 2019
written by Staff Reporter

Navi Mumbai / Dighe: Seven repeaters who had appeared for the SSC examination are finding themselves at the receiving end as the teacher who was assigned with the task of submitting their answer sheets at the SSC board office at Vashi, forgot them in the auto rickshaw she was travelling in.

Officials informed that the teacher, a resident of Airoli, working with the Vivekanand English School at Gavtewadi, Dighe, was taking the checked answer sheets to Vashi board office in an auto rickshaw on 12th March when she lost them. However, the complaint was filed 3 days later, on 15th March.

Police officials informed that the teacher had misplaced seven answer sheets and when she was not able to find them after a 3-day search, she filed a complaint. They said that there was no indication of a foul play and that they had registered a property missing complaint,” he added.

The Mumbai Divisional Board has sought an explanation from the teacher and decide if it was owing to her negligence.

Talking about the results of the exams if the answer sheets were not to be found, the school authorities informed that the students might get the average of the scores they get in other subjects.
