The Hidden Mystery Behind Fashion

Most of us have, at some point, considered what we would do if we could travel back in time. Maybe we would give ourselves some hot investment advice and become millionaires, or change history for the better, or witness our favorite historical event.

One year ago, I left San Francisco, sold and gave away everything I owned, and moved into a 40-liter backpack. I traveled to 45 cities in 20 countries, 3 Disneylands, and 1 bunny island. I also worked 50 hours a week building and launching a startup.I determined to study a few remarkable put up titles, and a few that wanted work. Alliteration is remarkable, clever, and it`s brief and sweet. However, I wasn’t positive precisely what I could be clicking on.

Traveling is not the same as vacation

There’s a growing community of “digital nomads” who live a location independent lifestyle. We’re software developers, designers, writers, journalists, engineers, and all sorts of people who share a passion for the work we do and experiencing the world.

I propose that a nomadic lifestyle is a productive way to build a real company. I’m working hard on bootstrapping an ambitious startup, Moo.do. I’m traveling because it’s cheaper, more productive, and more inspiring than sitting in one place. Traveling is the most responsible choice for the sake of my company, my finances, and my personal growth.

I became a nomad by accident

Three years ago I was preparing to leave my job at Microsoft to move to San Francisco to start a startup. My friend asked me “but why do you need to be in San Francisco when you can work on a computer from anywhere?” His question made a lot of sense. As I thought about it more, I began to question my assumptions about a “normal life” which don’t make sense in our modern world.

I reject the idea of a 9–5 job. I want to explore the world while the sun is out instead of wasting the daylight hours working inside and dreaming of my next vacation.

I spent 6 months traveling around Australia, Asia, and Europe
But it didn’t work out so well.

After traveling for 6 months, I gave up and still moved to San Francisco. Traveling was fun, but I had a great idea and I needed to really focus and get real work done. What better place to build my startup than Silicon Valley?

But I soon found myself becoming too comfortable and slowing down, getting easily bored and distracted, and watching a lot of TV. I sat at my computer for 12 hours a day but didn’t feel like I was productive.

I went to Tokyo Disney, Euro Disney, and Hong Kong Disney this year

On a trip to New York, my friends went to work during the days, so I went out and worked in coffee shops and in Central Park. Suddenly I was hugely productive, getting much more work done in 6 hours than in my normal 12 hour days. The same thing happened a few months later on a trip to London. I was even coming up with better ideas because the new experiences and surroundings were keeping my mind more active.

Deliberate fires continue to burn in Kharghar

The fires that happen at specific spots almost seem to be meticulously planned by some miscreants

Kharghar / Panvel / Navi Mumbai: On Sunday night, fires broke out at three spots in sector 7 of Kharghar. While two were very small, one was quite big and was spreading fast. Thankfully, we were there to drowse it down by ourselves, even when a certain group of “concerned” people simply stood mouthing big words, rather than doing anything.

Suraj Prajapati, the person who helped drowse the fire, said, “We were returning home from Hiranandani and took the back lane which runs parallel to the long patch of wilderness. Surprisingly, there was a fire burning stronger every minute and spreading fast. We stood for a few minutes to figure out what was to be done. Then, we saw an open shop which happened to be the kitchen of a restaurant.”

“The cleaner allowed us to borrow one of the utensils and water from the tap. Luckily, another worker of a shop in the same line joined in and started bringing buckets filled with water from his shop, which was closed by the way. He took the effort to open his shop again.”

“It took the three of us around four to five rounds each to completely drowse the fire and stop it from spreading ahead.”

The group, we spoke about earlier, which simply stood and watched later called the Kharghar fire brigade. However, the job was already done.

The fire fighters still made sure that no sparks remained at the first spot before moving on to the other two.

It just took them a minute or so to put the other fires down as they were very small to begin with. However, we were thankful that they did show up very promptly and bore no grudges for having called them in for such small fires.

It is strange that these these deliberate fires incidents of dry grass burning continue to occur in Kharghar without anyone ever being apprehended or even caught in action.

“There was another such fore a day before. We keep getting calls for such random fires and have to make sure they don’t spread out,” said one of the fire fighters.

“We are always ready to help no matter how small or big the problem. You cannot take a chance with these,” he added.

The scared, and seemingly famished bird, simply sat around the swimming pool of the society its rescuers lived in.

Taloja / Panvel / Navi Mumbai: Two local residents of Taloja Ghot gaon, recently helped rescue a sick kingfisher, they had found sitting blankly near the swimming pool of their society.

The bird was stationary and was in danger of being mauled by stray dogs, cats and rats.

Deepak Prajapati, one of the rescuers, residing in Taloja, who happens to works with ACTREC – Kharghar, was out for a stroll in his society when he saw a pretty blue bird sitting in a corner near the swimming pool.

The bird looked hypnotised for one and did not react much to its surroundings.

He had not thought that he was being involved in a short story of rescue, one that would teach him somethings and also provide a feeling of accomplishment.

Prajapati shared the story with us as follows:

Alone and scared

“I was just out for a stroll when my eyes caught glimpse of this lovely bird, that, as I first thought, was sheltered owing to the rain. I thought of feeding it but its beak kind of scared me a bit. So, I kept my distance and simply took some photographs and went home. However, I was surprised to find it at the same spot the next day too. It was scared for sure and simply sitting alone for reasons I could not understand. I tried feeding it something but it did not like it a bit and cornered itself further into the bushes.” Prajapati said.

Danger lurking around!

“While I kept admiring the beautiful bird, I happened to see two fully grown rats lurking around the bushes and that looked scary enough to me. I thought they would try getting to the bird at some point of time, if it did not fly away. Something had to be done, so I thought of capturing it, but the beak scared me again. Also, I had never caught a bird before.”

Help can be found!

“As I kept wondering what I could do, I came across some kids in my society and made them aware of the situation. I suggested catching it with the help of a cloth and one of the kids, Sarang Bhagle, a college student, who was initially scared of the beak, made up his mind to lend a helping hand.”

Caught!

“We brought a cloth and after some experimenting, were able to figure out how to capture it. After some tiring efforts, and the constant fear of either being pecked by the bird, or hurting it in some undesired manner, we were able to catch it.”

A safe place for a day or two!

“Bhagle extended his help by agreeing to take the bird home and tend to its needs for a day or two, till we were able to get help from some bird rescue organisation. He arranged for a cardboard box to keep the bird safely in. I felt glad that at least it did not have any external threat for a few days.”

Bird rescue is hectic!

“The next day was very hectic to say the least and very unsatisfactory for us. I tried every number of every animal rescue organisation in and around the city but all I could get was numbers of other organisations. They were simply passing it on to the other one. Every such organisation gave me nothing more than “another number” or excuses ranging from “logistic issues” to “out of work scope” to what not.”

“I had called almost every visible ngo between 12 pm and 6 pm, but all I could get were reasons for not being able to help. It was very disappointing.”

“I can specifically mention the names of all the ngos I had called and spoken to but that would gain nothing. I have zero expectations from them now.”

Local rescuers to the rescue!

“Finally, one of my journalist friends helped me out with the number of a local snake rescuer Aniket Gaikwad, who referred another rescuer, Hemant  Todkar, who lived in Kharghar. Todkar did not waste any time and immediately came to visit us. He did an initial prognosis based on experience and said that he would tend to it for a day or two and then decide what was to be done.”   

Free to fly again!

“Two days after Todkar took the bird, he called me up to share a video of the bird that looked hale and hearty, being released at a local pond near Taloja. I was so delighted to see the bird finally flying away to freedom and with renewed energy.”

Parting words!

“Well, in my opinion and experience, local rescuers, who are not necessarily associated with big organisation, and work on local levels, are the best choice for such rescues. Even local people lend a helping hand as I have experienced in the last few years. Do support local rescuers and provide them with the leverage they well deserve. After all, it is the local community that helps in the end.”

The Kingfisher was released at the pond near Taloja Jail, Kharghar.

LocalPressIn spoke with Hemant Todkar, the local rescuer, who turned out to be a local vet and snake rescuer, and member of Punarvasu Foundation, founded by Pritam Dilip Bhusane, which rescues snakes and birds. Todkar, as a vet, tends to cows in several gaushalas between Kharghar and Panvel.

“I received a call from these people who had taken home a kingfisher and had no clue what had to be done further. First of all, I was very pleased to see that some young people were so concerned for something as small as a bird that would hardly matter to most.”

“When I saw the bird, I realised that it was seemingly exhausted due to the hot climate we have had over the last week before the rain and also because of lack of food.”

“I took it home and fed it with some multivitamins and raw fish for two days and hoped that it recuperated well. To my pleasant surprise the bird was hopping and flying around in my house whenever it was let out of the enclosure we had kept it in for safety.”

“Once I was sure that the bird was fully recuperated, I took it to the pond near Taloja Jail and let it fly away. it just swept away in joy.”

Residents sang, danced, flew kites, and simply made merry as they celebrated gathered post Makar Sankranti and Lohri festivals.

Kharghar / Panvel / Navi Mumbai: On Sunday, the Taloja Jail Pond (sector 35 pond), was abuzz with many local families coming together to celebrate Makar Sankranti and Lohri. Readers must be aware that pandemic had kept the harvest celebrations under the wraps this year too.

So, on this weekend, some of the residents were seen indulging in humble celebrations at some local hotspots.

The Taloja Jail Pond, or sector 35 pond, as some people address it, is a picnic spot of sorts for Kharghar residents, and is always buzzing with life on weekends. It is right at the foot of the hills where people trek on weekends, and at a stone’s throw from the Taloja Central Jail.

This weekend was a little special though, owing to the recently concluded festivals like Makar Sankranti, Lohri, Bihu etc., which were celebrated indoors owing to the pandemic.

Many families had gathered at the Taloja pond along with their children and pets too, in festive mood and the atmosphere was simply vibrant.

Nilesh Singh, one of the people we met, had driven in with a group of friends from the sectors around Jal Vayu Vihar, Kharghar.

“Lohri is celebrated in a very grand way in the north, our native place, but this year we had to keep it low and indoors owing to the pandemic. So, today we thought of having a small celebration and get together of sorts here, without ignoring the norms set by the administration,” Singh said.

Kite flying is said to be an important ritual during Makar Sankranti and many could be seen trying their hands at it.

It was such a delight to watch parents helping their children to learn flying kites, while also trying to get back in the groove themselves.

“Flying kites is nostalgic for many of the older ones, and the emotions could be clearly read on the faces of many gathered here. We used to fly kites all the time during childhood and it was an exhilarating game for us. The joy of taking the kite high up in the sky and then snagging the kites of others, and cutting them down, was matchless,” a parent flying kite with his daughter shared.

The children were equally enthusiastic about kite flying and were trying everything to lift those paper joys up in the sky.

“I have never tried flying a kite before as I have never got the chance to do so. Today, I did it for the first time and it flew a bit. I will learn it for sure and fly it high next year,” said one of the little boys amused by kite flying.

While most of them were content with flying kites, the others, especially the women members of the families, were all in the mood to sing and dance to traditional as well as old bollywood melodies.

A group of women from the Sandhu, Singh, Tyagi and Shipurkar families were all in the mood and setting of singing their way into the evening, with one of them being the lead singer with an actually good voice.

“Lohri is all about rejoicing, singing and dancing, as you must have seen in the movies too. We, at north India need a little bit of that in our celebrations. So, we came here to celebrate it with family and friends,” said Monika, one of the women in group.

To be frank, they were good at it, as we heard a good share of the songs that were sung by them.

There were some snacks, tea and traditional sweets too, and we had some of those ourselves.

Locals say it could be the start of the ‘dry-grass-burning incidents’ that happen from time to time in Kharghar.

Kharghar / Panvel / Navi Mumbai: On Tuesday, 11th January 2022, a small patch of dried grass was set on fire in sector 35 in Kharghar. The spot was located along the vacant ground near the Kutuk bandhan Ganesh Ghat (pond) near sector 35.

Though the fire scorched a good amount of dry grass without spreading further, it did partially burn some small plants there.

Many would say that no real harm was done, but some believe, this could be the start of the dry-grass- burning incidents in Kharghar.

Affan Baig, a Kharghar resident, who was present at the time the incident, shared, “Every year we get to see incidents where dry grass gets burnt in some spots in Kharghar, especially over the hills, doing more damage than good. Today’s incident was a small incident but you never know; more could be coming along.”

As there was no information on who the culprit was, it can only be argued that it could have been miscreants or in the worst case scenario sweepers getting rid of the dry grass, which seems unlikely for now.

Surprisingly, many such small incidents of burning of dry grass are taken lightly until a large scale incident occurs, and then begins the blame game.

Unseasonal rain surprises residents of Navi Mumbai

After a cloudy day since morning, it finally showered down on the city in the evening.

Rains lashed several parts of Kharghar and other nodes in Navi Mumbai today, Saturday, 8 January 2022.

Navi Mumbai: Today, Saturday, 8th January 2022, the day had been cloudy ever since the sun shone in the early hours, only to remain hidden the entire day. Residents of Navi Mumbai had already been enjoying the cool day. Finally the showers came in to the joy of all.

A little after 4.00 pm today, it started raining with a cool breeze blowing around. There were no loud thunder or lightening though.

It rained in Kharghar and other nodes as well, and while it did not last long, it did cool down the temperature a bit.

The NMMC had recorded a total of 1072 new cases in major nodes of the city.

New covid-19 cases continue to surge in Navi Mumbai post December celebrations.

Navi Mumbai: The Belapur node recorded 228 new cases of covid-19, the highest in the city, on Tuesday, 4th January 2022. The number of new infections in the rest of the populated nodes too was near about the same.

The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) shared the covid-19 numbers as follows:

Belapur -228, Nerul-166, Vashi-143, Koperkhairane-114, Ghansoli-163, Airoli– 105, Turbhe-97 and Digha-36.

Mahendra Konde, PRO, NMMC, informed, “Navi Mumbai recorded a high number of new covid-19 cases on Tuesday, with 1071. It looks like the virus is on a surge post festive season but we are prepared to tackle it.”

As per information, 440 patients are housed in the Vashi Exhibition Centre covid centre, 94 in the Nerul Covid Care Centre in sector 9, and 18 at the MGM Sanpada Covid Health Centre.

Also, 1247 positive individuals have been kept under home isolation.

There has been sharp increase in positive cases post Christmas and New Year celebrations.

Navi Mumbai: As citizens and health authorities ready themselves to tackle the omicron threat, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has informed about the sharp increase in the number of active covid-19 cases in city. It has been learnt that daily cases have gone up by more than ten times and active cases by three times, in just about the last two weeks.

Civic chief, Abhijit Bangar, has expressed his concern and has requested citizens to take more precautions than ever.

As cases continue to scale up, the NMMC is set to conduct test on a much wider scale throughout the city and also bring in more sanctions.

As per information, the number of covid-19 patients in the city was close to 1200 on 31st December 2021.

Work on the 1500 sqmtr area is stipulated to be completed within six months and will comprise of attractions like an open amphitheatre, pergolas, food kiosks, a sculptures and a water fountain to name a few.

Vashi / Navi Mumbai: The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has commenced beautification work of Sagar Vihar, after years of neglect, resulting from the indecisiveness of local authorities.

However, this time around, they have bigger plans – to transform Sagar Vihar into a tourist spot!

The local hotspot situated along the Vashi creek area has finally got due attention after the continuous efforts of former Vashi corporator Divya Vaibhav Gaikwad, and many local residents who had been pursuing the cause for years.

Apparently, the NMMC had always been in a position to beautify the area but were tied down owing to the delay in transfer of land by the City and Industrial Development Corporation of Maharashtra Ltd. (CIDCO). They kept dilly-dallying over the transfer of land to the municipal corporation for reasons best known to them.

However, CIDCO recently transferred the land to the NMMC and beautification plans have finally been set into motion.

“We would have developed the area long back if CIDCO had given us the land. Anyway, we will be carrying out a total revamping of the area, turning it into nothing less than a tourist haven,” said Arvind Shinde, executive engineer, NMMC.

 For readers who are unaware, Sagar Vihar was the most happening spot in Navi Mumbai decades ago. Being a creek area, it was the most frequently visited area by residents of all age groups from Vashi and neighbouring nodes. Even people from Mumbai and Thane used to visit the place.  

It had been always been, and still continues to be, a favourite spot of the locals who visit during early mornings and evenings, for their daily exercise and walk routines.

Sagar Vihar was also a hit with the local youth who used to throng the area a lot before the pandemic had struck.

Apart from the good things, the spot has been notorious for being a den of anti-social elements in the past. Sagar Vihar had turned into a drunkards’ den where many addicts would assemble after dark. Some unfortunate crime incidents had also taken place in the past.

However, the local police have worked hard to blot out the image, and have done it pretty well too.

Some of you would also be surprised to know that Sagar Vihar was also one of the two areas in Navi Mumbai with hovercraft services, the other being Sarovar Vihar at Belapur.

Yes, decades ago, a private company had started hovercraft services till Mumbai but unfortunately had to shut down owing to low response. Many people used to visit the area just to see the hovercraft in action.

Praful Pawar, a Vashi resident, shared, “Sagar Vihar had great potential that was wasted owing to the sheer neglect and lack of ownership of the development authority.”

While Pawar was obviously upset about the way Sagar Vihar was left to waste, there were some who had a somewhat positive outlook.

Neha Singh, a teacher, residing in sector 8, Vashi, shared,“It is a fact that Sagar Vihar has been completely neglected for decades, but we are content with the fact that it will be getting revamped now. It deserves to be managed properly and we hope that the corporation will do a better job than the previous owners.”

NMMC’s revamping plan for Sagar Vihar:

  • Redoing the main entrance to Sagar Vihar and turning it into some kind of royal entrance or sorts.
  • Installing a sculpture of a child depicting evolution (birth till old age)
  • An artificial water fountain for enticing children
  • Using stamped concrete (textured) on the pathway in Sagar Vihar, covering over 1,500 sqm.
  • Barricading the entire patch of land securely
  • Planting bamboo trees for creating partitions inside the barricaded area
  • Landscaping the spaces between all bamboo partitions
  • Developing two pergolas (arched structure covered with plants) for sitting

The two pergolas will be situated and developed in a manner that will allow them to be in a perfect position and angel to be used as an amphitheatre during events and programmes. So community events will be a regular scene at Sagar Vihar after the redevelopment.

Apparently, many locals have also already started rooting for restarting the hovercraft services from Sagar Vihar.

Divya V. Gaikwad, former corporator from Vashi, who has also been instrumental in campaign to redevelop Sagar Vihar, shared, “We will be proposing to restart the hovercraft or water taxis from Sagar Vihar, probably in the next phase of development.”

While that remains to be seen, city residents are now hoping that the NMMC will revamp Sagar Vihar in a manner that they are promising.

The date also marks the birth date of Leena Garad, a dynamic local corporator and leader, who also happens to be the chairperson of the Kharghar Forum.

She has been successfully spearheading many activities of the forum since long.
