Kharghar Corporator Leena Garad visits Hetwane Dam

by Staff Reporter June 11, 2022
written by Staff Reporter

Garad inspected the present water level at the dam and the ongoing construction work.

Pen / Raigad / Navi Mumbai: Local corporator Leena Garad recently visited the Hetwane Dam in Pen, Raigad, on 4th June 2022, to check the viability and progress of the work, that the City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) said, was underway.

Garad had visited the dam to check the water reserves and also to inspect the work being done by CIDCO to ensure adequate water supply to all the nodes in the region.

Readers must be aware that there has been extreme scarcity of potable water in Kharghar, Taloja, Kamothe and Panvel for the last four months, forcing residential societies to buy water from private water suppliers. The situation has also boosted the sale of bottled water as the water supplied through water tankers has been found unfit for drinking.

Garad shared the following findings with us:

Hetwane Dam has sufficient water even now

Garad surprisingly informed that the water levels were sufficient enough to meet the needs of all nodes from Kharghar to Panvel.

“To start with, I want to clear the general misunderstanding of the residents of our region – There is no visible scarcity of water in the Hetwane dam. Even now, in the scorching weather that is dwindling water reserves everywhere, the dan has enough water to cater to the entire region. So frankly, the whole understanding of the residents that water is scarce, is not true at all. We seem to have enough water till the monsoon arrives.”

Watch: Corporator Leena Garad visits Hetwane Dam in Paned, Raigad

Open running channel cause of low pressure of supply

Garad further shared a startling fact concerning an open running water channel at the dam area.

“There is an open channel across the CIDCO pump room at the dam, which has been flushing away hundreds of thousands of litres of water on a daily basis. It is owing to such that there is always a low pressure of water supply, which has been one of the main issues that CIDCO has been quoting since years. However, none of the authorities have eve informed anyone about the running water channel till now.”

“Can you imagine the situation? When the entire region is thirsting for water, there is an untapped water channel that gushes thousands of litres of precious every day, also accounting to the low pressure in supply lines.”

The modifications at the dam could have been done years ago

Garad blamed the administration for delaying the matter for years without any rational explanation ever given to the residents.

“It is plainly visible that there was no scarcity of water. Frankly, with a little bit of timely modifications like the one being made now, would have ensured sufficient and regular water supply to region. So why did the administration and the development authority never think about it in all these years?”

“CIDCO has been promising uninterrupted water supply, year after year since 2013, but has not been able to provide as promised. None of the nodes like Kharghar, Kamothe and Taloja have ever received sufficient water supply on a regular basis. Taloja has a different level of water issues altogether.”

“There has always been water scarcity in more than a couple of sectors in all of these nodes. This simply points out to the shoddy planning of the development authority and blatant non-implementation of work by the administration.”

Garad is now waiting to see if CIDCO fulfills the newly made promises of regularising water supply to all deprived nodes in the region once the ongoing work gets completed.

“We are hopeful that the ongoing work at the Hetwane dam will solve a major part of the issue by helping channelize a major quantity of water that was wasting away. However, more permanent solutions have to be worked upon for the ever growing population and their growing need for potable water,” Garad concluded.

Vashi dog park finally opens it’s gates

by Staff Reporter June 10, 2022
written by Staff Reporter

Navi Mumbai’s first ever dog park is now a reality

Vashi / Navi Mumbai: The much awaited Vashi Dog Park has been thrown open for pet parents to bring in their dogs for play and exercise. The park was delayed a lot owing to the pandemic, followed by pending construction work, which was recently completed, much to the joy of pet parents in Vashi and around.

The park was inaugurated by MLA Shashikant Shinde (NCP), in the presence of former corporators Divya and Vaibhav Gaikwad, several pet parents and their pets.

For those who don’t know, the Vashi Dog Park was the brainchild of Divya Gaikwad, who had been relentlessly pursuing the NMMC since years to turn it into a reality. It is a dedicated park for pet dogs and is situated within the Veer Savarkar Udyan in sector 8, Vashi.

Work on the dog park had commenced in the month of April 2021 but was delayed for many reasons.

Read the story here: Work on Vashi dog park, Navi Mumbai’s first such park, commences

However, work on the park gathered momentum in the last two months and the park was finally readied to open.

“I am very glad to announce the opening of the Vashi Dog Park to all pet dog owners. It is finally a reality for all those who had been strongly supporting the cause since more than half a decade. I thank the NMMC too for their support and for making the dream of all pet owners come true,” Gaikwad said.

The event was attended by pet parents from Vashi who came along with their pet dogs, who happily played around in the many slides, climbs and tunnels installed inside the park.

Pet parents were ecstatic as they sat back and saw their pets happily playing around without any worries.

“It is such a great feeling to see my pet kid playing freely without the fear of being shouted at or driven away by anyone. He can finally be himself and have as much fun as he can playing with his friends,” said one of the pet parents present at the park.

It is his park and he shall freely play here,” Gaikwad had been and was completed Finally, after more than half a decade of continuous struggle, Gaikwad’s vision has taken shape in the form of the first ever dog park of Navi Mumbai.

The Vashi dog park is now open for Navi Mumbai’s pet dogs.

(We will be updating the timing, fees (if any) and other details soon).

Kharghar / Panvel / Navi Mumbai: A city based NGO, Ecologics & Innovations Foundation, planted 21 saplings, early during the day on Sunday, 5 June 2022, along the creek behind Vastu Vihar in sector 16 of Kharghar. The activity was self funded and carried out by their volunteers and some enthusiastic local young environment lovers, who had all gathered to do their part towards the environment, on World Environment Day 2022..

Priti Sharma, Founder, Ecologics & Innovations Foundation, shared, “Planting saplings is just one of the many ways available to rejuvenate the environment. It is a long process, but it is such long and relentless processes that can really save the environment. What we did was a small gesture just like what many other local NGOs and individuals have been doing in their own capacities. There is a lot more to be done as we go along.”

Abhimanyu Patil, local corporator and chairman of ward committee (A), PCMC, took some time out of his busy schedule to participate in the activity.

Abhimanyu Patil, local corporator and chairman of ward committee (A), PCMC, and Priti Sharma, Founder, Ecologics & Innovations Foundation, at the sapling plantation event.

Patil shared his thoughts on the idea of planting saplings, “Of all the things we can do to nourish the environment, the simplest is the planting of saplings, whenever and wherever possible. We need to maintain a balance in environment by growing as many trees as we can. It is so simple, right?”

The youngsters present at the event shared the same opinion.

Affan Baig, a resident of sector 35, shared his experience, “This was my first ever event of planting saplings and I really felt wonderful. It provided me with a feeling of satisfaction of contributing to the environment in some way. I shall participate in such activities more often from now on.”

On future events of the organisation, Priti shared, “We have a “Monsoon Plantation Drive” event coming up in the end of June, or in the first week of July (dates not decided yet), in collaboration with the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC). We will be planting saplings at the Morbe Dam at Khalapur, Raigad. “

The event concluded on a good note with the creek-side area getting richer by 21 plants and the promise of more to come!

Manish Bathija, managing director, Paradise Group, shares, “The exhibition is not just to display projects but to help home buyers find homes that fit their likings and budgets. It is to make them aware of the real estate scenario, discuss their plans and priorities with developers and banking experts at the event.”

“Above all, it is to fill them up with positive vibes by letting them know that their dreams of buying the right homes, and living happily with their families, is also a priority of developers like us, who are no different than them,” Bathija adds.

All the participating developers share the same views as that of Bathija. While developers participating in the mega exhibition are confident of the projects they have on offer, they hope home seekers will at least visit the event once to have a great experience.

Bhupendra Shah, Trustee, BANM, shared his thoughts, “The 20th mega property exhibition is a wonderful opportunity for home seekers to discuss their options in person with participating developers. They can benefit from candid conversations with developers and banking institutions to get a clear picture of the real estate scenario in the region, and make wise home buying decisions.”

“We don’t want home buyers to come only if they plan to buy homes right away. What we want is for them to visit the exhibition, get a feel of the ongoing real estate trend and growth in the region, and make informed home-buying decision in future,” Shah added.

All participating developers and bankers felt the same and urged home seekers to visit BANM’s 20th mega property exhibition without fail.

No electricity in sector 35 E, Kharghar, since 10 hours

Power was abruptly cut in several parts of sectors 34 and 35 a little after midnight without any prior information.

Kharghar / Panvel / Navi Mumbai: Residents of sectors 34 and 35 in Kharghar had to remain without electricity for hours after might night in the sweltering heat. The unscheduled and uninformed power cut took everyone by surprise as the MSEB had not informed about any such late night schedule.

“We had a power cut at around 12.26 am it was extremely hot. However, after a few phone calls to the MSEB, the power got restored around 12.47, pretty quick for MSEB standards, said a resident of Proviso Hill Park in sector 35 I.

MSEB technicians who were good enough to visit some of the societies identified it as a technical fault and got the power restored back.

However, not all societies were so lucky to get their power supply back so soon. Some societies like Blue Crest, located in sector 35 E, are yet to get their power supply resumed.

“We had a power cut around 12.30 am and are still without electricity. This is sheer irresponsibility on MSEB’s part as they never inform or even manage power cuts properly. Such is the pathetic state of service that we have to bear with at times,” said residents of Blue Crest.

MSEB officials are looking into the issue at the moment, which could be due to too much power load or faulty wires or equipment.

P.S. At the time of publishing this article, the society was still waiting for the power supply to be restored. We tried calling them at their given numbers but to no avail.

Kharghar / Navi Mumbai / Panvel: The cherished dream of the City and Industrial Development Corporation of Maharashtra Ltd. (CIDCO) to bring international golf tournaments to Navi Mumbai is on the way to realisation. Work on extending the 9-hole Kharghar Valley Golf Course (KVGC) to an 18-hole golf course, suited to host international golf tournaments and championships is underway.

CIDCO recently tweeted a short video showing renowned director Rohit Shetty giving a short update on the significance and future prospects of the Kharghar Valley Golf Course, as it inches close to gaining international recognition.

CIDCO MD, Dr. Sanjay Mishra, is elated at the progress the KVGC is making as time progresses, and is hopeful of its transition into a golf course of international repute, attracting many commercial golf tournaments in future, and also boosting international tourism in the ‘City of the twenty first century’.

Highlights of the Kharghar Valley Golf Course

  • KVGC to have fairway of 710 yards, largest in the country
  • Course to run on a “Pay and Play” model with zero exclusive memberships
  • In-house academy to train aspiring young golfers
  • Provision of additional play area apart from golf
  • State of art country club with all modern facilities.
