The weather has been sultry in and around Navi Mumbai as the rains have stopped for now for a brief period.

Navi Mumbai Rains likely to pick up by end of July
The weather in Kharghar, Navi Mumbai has been cloudy, with very light showers and hot most of the time.

Kharghar / Navi Mumbai: Rains in Navi Mumbai seem to have come to a brief halt with only cloudy weather and a few showers here and there. However, weather experts have predicted that rains will return to Navi Mumbai and Mumbai once again in the next 3 to 4 days.

In Kharghar, rains have been gone since a few days, though it has been cloudy with light showers.

Tuesday was the driest monsoon in Kharghar, with no rain at all and harsh sunlight.

In the last week itself, the Kharghar (Pandavkada) waterfalls and Driving Range Waterfalls seemed to be in dire need of the rains to get back into the monsoon tide once again.

It has been predicted that the weather will remain almost dry with occassional light rains from time to time.

Day temperatures are forecasted to be in the range of 33 to 34 degrees and remain hot and humid in Mumbai and Navi Mumbai.

Navi Mumbai rains are expected to gain momentum after July 26 or 27 but only in moderate quantity.

Heavy rains are not expected in Navi Mumbai soon but it will bring relief to the hot and humid conditions developed in the last week.

It has been raining in Kharghar since a few days and waterfalls, ponds, dams and streams have started to overflow spreading water and greenery all around

Kharghar / PMC / Navi Mumbai: The monsoons have set in and Kharghar has been bestowed by the rains, filling up all water bodies in Kharghar, namely the Kharghar waterfalls, the driving range waterfalls and all other ponds and steams.

Kharghar is an image of water and greenery at the present moment with nature enjoying in solitude, as people stay away.

Locals and visitors have been avoiding popular picnic spots in Kharghar like Pandavkada Waterfalls, Driving Range Waterfalls, Owe Dam and Kharghar Hills, owing to the coronavirus lockdown.

Recently, the Kharghar police had booked around 23 revellers for violating the lockdown norms and visiting picnic spots like the Pandavkada Waterfalls and the Driving Range waterfalls.

It may sound ironic but Kharghar natural beauty seems to be enjoying it’s own company as people remain home.

Following are a few photos of Kharghar taken by Ankit Kothiyal, a resident of Kharghar.

Annasaheb Misal out, Abhijit Bangar in as new commissioner of NMMC

by Staff Reporter July 15, 2020
written by Staff Reporter

Navi Mumbai: It looks like the monsoons don’t bring good tides for NMMC commissioners. During last monsoons, Annasaheb Misal had replaced Ramaswamy N, and this time around, Annasaheb Misal got replaced by Abhijit Bangar, in what seems to be a hasty decision.

To recall a bit, Annasaheb Misal was already once told to leave office in the month of June. Along with Misal, many other civic chiefs in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR), had been ordered to be transfered, and they all had to obey.

However, the decision to transfer Misal had to be changed for several reasons, political pressure being one.

However, this time around, the the Maharashtra government decided to replace him with with Abhijit Bangar, an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of the 2008 batch.

The decision can be seen as a hasty gamble owing to the growing numbers of coronavirus cases (Covid-19) in Navi Mumbai, and Misal’s inability to flatten the curve in any way.

To add to the drama, Misal was not informed beforehand about the transfer order and it was only when Bangar had arrived to take charge of office that he was informed about the decision and comply.

Who is the new Commissioner of NMMC Abhijit Bangar?

Abhijit Bangar, the new civic chief of the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC), is an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer, who had served as the civic chief of the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) for 14 months. He was also the additional commissioner of Nagpur division before he got transferred as the NMMC commissioner.

Kharghar waterfalls, streams and ponds in good flow

by Staff Reporter July 10, 2020
written by Staff Reporter

The monsoons are here and like always water is flowing freely from small and big waterfalls in Kharghar, along with the streams and ponds

Kharghar waterfalls, streams and ponds in good flow
Many small waterfalls have started flowing at various places in Kharghar

Kharghar / Raigad / Navi Mumbai: The Kharghar waterfalls, namely Pandavkada waterfalls and Driving Range waterfalls, have started flowing with the amount of rain received a few days earlier.

Apart from the more popular waterfalls in Kharghar, small waterfalls and streams along the Kharghar Hills have also started flowing freely.

Ponds in Kharghar too have been overflowing with water with all the years’ garbage already been flushed out of them, and only fresh and clean water remaining in them.

There is lush greenery spreading across Kharghar Hills, gardens, parks and open spaces as the rains fall.

It may be noted here that a lockdown is in place and hence people are not allowed to venture out picnic spots in Kharghar, like the Pandavkda Hills, The Driving Ranger waterfalls or the Kharghar Hills.

A few days ago, the Kharghar police had even booked 67 people for ignoring the lockdown and venturing out to the Pandavkada Waterfalls and nearby places..

So, as people stay indoors, nature is blooming in Kharghar, first time in many years, without any human interruption.

The Taloja river is a wonderful natural location that runs from Taloja, all the way through Kharghar, into the creek. This particular spot is just behind the Vastu Vihar mass housing project in Kharghar and is an amazing place for nature lovers. There are some variety of birds for bird lovers, the calm river and a lonely street frequented by young boys and girls, to shoot photos and videos.

A must visit place throughout the year, especially during the rains .
