PCMC begins taking charge of CIDCO utility plots

Navi Mumbai / Panvel / PCMC: The Panvel City Municipal Corporation has asked CIDCO to hand over public utility plots. The plots that spread across Kharghar, Kalamboli and Panvel, include gardens, playgrounds and daily bazaar plots and will be taken on a lease for a period of 60 years. Apparently, the PCMC will be charged a negligible lease premium compared to the rates of plots in the area.

PCMC and Cidco will be registering a formal agreement with effective standard terms and conditions of CIDCO. A formal list of playgrounds and garden plots handed out by CIDCO contains 25 plots in Kharghar, 15 plots in Kalamboli and eight plots in Panvel (New Panvel and Khanda Colony). CIDCO has also offered around 17 daily bazaar plots in Kharghar.

The playground and garden plots will be leased at a premium value of Rs 79 per square metres.

Surprisingly, the PCMC handover will be much sooner than the one given to NMMC, which had taken around 10 years.

Officials further informed that except for the plots in Kamothe, all other public utility and daily bazaar plots had been offered on a lease premium. The handover was being priortised by both PCMC and CIDCO and most of the payments had already been made.

The handover, when completely given, will ensure speedy development done in public interest.

Navi Mumbai / PMC / Kharghar: Taps have been running dry, or at least, not adequately supplied with water, in various sectors of Kharghar owing to a pipeline burst in the Hetawane mainline at Retibunder, on Sunday. Though the pipeline had been sealed, adequate water supply was yet to resume.

CIDCO Officials informed that the pipeline burst that had caused delay in supply was promptly worked upon and after round the clock efforts that took more than 24 hours at a stretch, the damage was repaired. However, the supply had to be shut down temporarily for the repairs and though resumed the next day, it would have taken some time for the water pressure to build up and reach high-rise areas of the city.

Sectors receiving inadequate supply in Kharghar included sectors 4, 5, 13, 20, 34 and 35. Water was supplied to these sectors for limited time twice a day.

Officials ensured that the supply would return to normal soon, probably by Wednesday.

How to use Yulu cycles and the charges involved

Navi Mumbai: Yulu bikes have been covering major nodes with Kharghar being the newest one to flag off the service. While it has been talk of the town, many still find themselves wondering about the way to use the service. We simplify it for you.

To begin with, Yulu brings forth two versions, one called the Yulu Move, which is a cycle and the other, Yulu Miracle, which is an electric bike. In all, they present the most advanced vehicle sharing solution presently available in the city. With a fleet of beautiful & functional vehicles powered by GPRS, GPS and Bluetooth technology it gives freedom to rent as per convenience of time and location. You can rent it from any pickup point, drop it at any drop point in the area, or simple take it home for that matter.

Getting started

First, you have to download the Yulu app from Playstore and register yourself for the service. You will have to make a minimum deposit of Rs 100 in their digital wallet to get started. Once registered, you will gain access to a fully functional app that will show you all the pickup points in the city and you can go to the nearest one to rent a cycle.

Renting a cycle/bike from a pick-up point

Once at the pickup point, you will need to scan the QR code available on the lock with your mobile phone. The lock will open automatically on successful verification.

You can then take the cycle anywhere you wish to and when done with your day’s ride, park it at any of the Yulu Zones available around. Ensure that you close the lock manually and press the end ride button in the App. The charge for the ride will be deducted from the balance available in the wallet.

Charges of renting a cycle/bike

Now, coming to the charges, Yulu Move charges Rs 10 for the first 30 minutes and then Rs 5 for every 30 minutes. Just remember that they have pause charges as well so if you don’t end your ride and keep it on pause then they charge Rs. 5 for every 30 minutes and Rs. 30 maximum between 6:00pm to 10:00am. So that allows you to keep it at home for that period.

The charges of Yulu Miracle, or the electric bike, are a little different with Rs. 10 for unlocking the bike, then Rs. 10 for every 10 minutes of the ride. The pause charges are Rs. 5 for every 30 minutes and Rs. 90 maximum between 6:00pm to 10:00am.

Simple, isn’t it? Go along, rent a cycle, Ride the Change!

Why? Well, as the title tells, Yulu Bikes are now here with their simple yet effective offering to make a difference. The cycle sharing service was launched on Sunday in the presence of dignitaries and local residents.

BJP MLA and CIDCO Chairman, Prashant Thakur and CIDCO Vice President and MD, Lokesh Chandra, inaugurated the event in the presence of local residents that included enthusiastic children, waiting to ride the cycles for the first time.

The dignitaries were all praises for the efforts of Yulu and the fact that it was the first such node to get the service launched in the PMC region. Thakur and Chandra inaugurated the service by jointly cutting the ribbon and then setting off for the first maiden ride of the event, much to the joy of all present.

Navi Mumbai / Kharghar / PMC: The City and Industrial Development Corporation’s (CIDCO) Public Bicycle Sharing System (PBSS) might get launched coming Sunday after it was cancelled twice, the latest cancellation being on Thursday.

It was another day of disappointment for cycling enthusiasts in Kharghar as yet another inauguration had to be called off yesterday. More than a hundred of them had shown up at the Central Park to kick start the first ever cycling service of the region. The managing agency had kept cycles ready to flag off the maiden ride. However, the 11.30 inauguration was cancelled as the chief guest of the event, CIDCO MD Lokesh Chandra, failed to make it to the event owing to other important engagements. Ironically, the event was first scheduled for Monday but was postponed till Thursday, to be cancelled once again. The crowd had to return after waiting for more than an hour.

Chandra has assured that he would not be missing the Sunday inauguration date at any cost.

The services, once fully started, will cover over 30 locations simultaneously in the node and help resolve traffic issues and reduce carbon footprints just to name a few.

Soon city roads may get redone with white-topping technology

Image used for representational purpose

Navi Mumbai / Nerul:  The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) is planning to use ultra-thin white topping technology to redo or repair city roads. They recently inspected one of the streets redone as a pilot project using the technology in Shiravane, Nerul.

The inspection was carried out by civic chief Ramaswami N along with city engineer Surendra Patil and other senior officials.

This is the first time that the white topping concrete road technology has been used in the city as pilot projects at Shiravane and another internal road at Kopri. It may be used for other roads as well.

The technology has already been used by other municipal corporations, one being Thane. The fact that the concrete layer can be laid directly on existing bitumen or black topped roads without disturbing the crust, adds to its feasibility and time saving ability. It primarily reduces wear and tear, further reducing maintenance work costs.

The technology has been successfully used in cities like Chennai, Hyderabad, Bengaluru and Pune to name a few.

Officials informed that the roads will be observed closely for the next six months to identify issues, if any.

Taloja chemical hub to get two CAAQ stations to monitor air quality
Image used for representational purpose

Navi Mumbai / Taloja / PMC: The pollution in Taloja is set to go down or at least be monitored as the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) will be setting up two Continuous Ambient Air Quality (CAAQ) monitoring stations in the chemical hub. The decision comes after continuous complaints made by residents of Taloja and surrounding sectors of Kharghar about foul air and thick haze.

It comes as a surprise that the monitoring stations are being set up nearly after four decades of the establishment of the chemical hub at Taloja in 1972.  For those unaware of the Taloja chemical hub, there are over 950 units in the area out of which 40% are chemical factories.

Apparently, the regional officer of MPCB had sought the installation of the CAAQ stations just two months back and given the kind of pressure the department has been under, the decision was made quickly.

Satish Shetty, president of Taloja Industries’ Association, who also presides over the committee of the common effluent treatment plant society informed that he had met environment minister Ramdas Kadam and the decision to set up the CAAQ stations was a firm one.

Residents think that the decision would bring some relief as the air quality would now be checked continuously and pollutant measured.
