The 92nd Academy Awards has some tough competition this year with 5 actresses being nominated for Best Actress category. Needless to say, the Oscars will see some nail-biting moments for movie lovers as well as the actresses.  

The nominees for Best Actress are as follows:

Renee Zellweger for her role of ‘Judy Garland’ in the film ‘Judy’.

The ‘Bridget Jone’s Diary’ actress, Renee Zellweger, is the strongest contender this year to take away the Oscar for Best Actress for her stellar performance in the movie ‘Judy’ where she portrays the role of the popular singer-actress Judy Garland. Having already won the BAFTA and Golden Globes Awards for the role, she stands a great chance to sweeping the Oscars too.

Cynthia Erivo for her role of ‘Harriet Tubman’ in the film ‘Harriet’.

Cynthia Erivo’s portrayal of ‘Harriet Tubman’, who had escaped slavery to become one of the greatest civil rights activists known, in the biopic ‘Harriet’, directed by Kasi Lemmons, could give a tough competition to the rest of the nominees. This is Cynthia’s first ever Academy Awards nomination and shows great potential to win an Oscar.

Scarlett Johansson for her role of ‘Nicole Barber’ in the movie ‘Marriage Story’.

Scarlett Johansson’s role of Nicole in the movie ‘Marriage Story’, directed by Noah Baumbach, has got Scarlett her first nomination for Best Actress at the Academy Awards. The movie portraying the lives of a married couple with a kid, going through the pain of divorce despite the love that they have for each other, has been praised by audiences worldwide. Surprisingly, Scarlett has also been nominated for Best Supporting Actress for her role in the movie ‘Jojo Rabbit’ which is yet another outstanding movie nominated for the Best Film award. So, Scarlett has two shots at the Oscars this year.

Charlize Theron for her role of ‘Meghan Kelly’ in the movie Bombshell

Charlize Theron, the Academy Awards winner for Best Actress in the film ‘Monster’ in 2004, has been nominated for her amazing performance in the film ‘Bombshell’ by Jay Roach, where she plays the role of ‘Meghan Kelly’, a popular and bold newscaster. This is her third such nomination.

Saoirse Ronan for her role of ‘Josephine March’ in the movie ‘Little Women’.

The 2018 Golden Globe Awards winner, Saoirse Ronan, has been hailed for her role of ‘Josephine March’ in the film ‘Little Women’ by Greta Gerwig. Saoirse plays the role of an author who experiences the many joys and pains of growing into adulthood along with her three sisters. This is the third such nomination for Saoirse after being nominated for her role in ‘Brooklyn’ in 2016 and later for her role in ‘Lady Bird’ in the year 2018.

So here they are, the 5 wonderful actresses who will be sitting at the edges of their seats, hoping to take home the Oscar! Irrespective of who wins the award, they are all winners in our eyes!
