Navi Mumbai / PMC: The monsoons have finally set in with Navi Mumbai and Mumbai receiving heavy rain since the last two days, with parts of Mumbai getting as close to 268.6 mm of rainfall on Tuesday.
In Mumbai, rain had been falling for a straight 24 hours and BMC’s disaster management department’s phones kept ringing with reports of tree falling, short circuits and watrer logging at several places.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for Mumbai, Thane and Palghar for today (Wednesday) warning of extremely heavy rain at isolated places.
In Navi Mumbai, both districts, Thane and Raigad, have been receiving heavy rains since yesterday till now.
Navi Mumbai nodes from Airoli to Panvel received good amount of rain through Tuesday till today.
Heavy rains in Navi Mumbai caused uprooting of trees, potholes, water logging and traffic issues in several parts.
In Kharghar, it has been raining since yesterday, through the night and today (Wednesday).
As a result of the heavy rains in Kharghar all local waterbodies, like the Kharghar Waterfalls, Driving Range Waterfalls, ponds and streams have been overflowing.
The IMD has forecast heavy rains for the next day in Mumbai and Navi Mumbai.
