Navi Mumbai: Former CM Devendra Fadnavis, recently shared that the centre had showed keen interest in setting up a detention centre in Navi Mumbai, during his tenure. The revelation came just after PM Modi denied ever discussing NRC and the possibility of any such centres anytime in future. Fadnavis is said to have sought land from CIDCO in Navi Mumbai to set up a centre for illegal foreigners on the Centre’s directives. The idea was to accommodate foreigners living past their visa tenures till they could be deported back to their respective countries.

Whatever the case, Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray has assured that no such centres or camps will ever be set up in the state.
