Environmentalists approach Environment Minister Aaditya Thackeray to save wetlands

Navi Mumbai: Environmentalist have now sought the help of newly elected environment minister Aaditya Thackeray, in saving the environment and deploying an active green police force to take action against environment offenders.

Environment NGOs like NatConnect Foundation and Shri Ekvira Aai Pratishtan (SEAP) have requested Thackeray to declare Aarey greenery as forest, transferring it to the forest department, and also to move the metro car shed be another location.

They highlighted how mangroves and wetlands were being destroyed all across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) and ecologically sensitive Uran area by Navi Mumbai SEZ, JNPT, JNPT SEZ, NHAI and many such projects and activities.
