CIDCO fails to restore Bhendkal, Pagote wetlands in Uran before deadline

Navi Mumbai / Uran: The City and Industrial Development Corporation of Maharashtra Ltd. (CIDCO) has failed to restore the wetlands in Uran, namely Bhendkhal and Pagote by the deadline set by the high court-appointed Mangrove Protection and Conservation Committee.

In December, the committee, acting on complaints against destruction of 150 acres of the 160-acre Bhendkhal wetland under Navi Mumbai SEZ, had asked CIDCO and the Raigad district collector to clear the debris and soil dumped illegally. However, both the authorities have not even moved an inch, as angry environmentalists accuse.

Also, the Committee had demanded for the restoration of the wetland at Pagote under the NMSEZ, where 100 acres and about 3,000 mangroves had been destroyed. Surprisingly none of the concerned authorities have taken any steps towards fulfillment of the work.
