Advertisers chop off trees to make hoardings visible at Sanpada

Navi Mumbai / Sanpada: An advertising company has chopped of around four trees off the Sion-Panvel highway at Sanpada to ensure visibility to two hoardings. They were only permitted to trim the trees at the most.

The matter came into light when some concerned citizens and environmental activists noticed it. As per their statement, the offenders may have chopped off at least four huge trees that also included an old peepal tree.  They immediately informed the gardens department of the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) about the crime.

Officials at the NMMC gardens department informed that they had inspected the site based on the complaint and found it to be true. They were in the process of sending show-cause notices to the hoarding companies and would take further action.

The hoarding company might get booked under section 20 (1) of the Maharashtra Preservation of Trees Act, 1975.
