NMMC to construct new medical college and super-speciality hospital in CBD-Belapur

The new civic medical college and hospital will be built on a 34,000 sq. mtrs plot priced at Rs. 107 crores, situated adjacent to the NMMC headquarters.

CBD-Belapur / Navi Mumbai: The city will soon be getting a government-run medical college and super-speciality hospital. The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) is in the process of securing a huge plot through the City and Industrial Corporation of Maharashtra Ltd. (CIDCO), which will be used for the purpose.

The plot, measuring 34,800 sq. mtrs is located in sector 15A of CBD-Belapur, right adjacent to the civic headquarters and is presently priced at Rs 107 crore, as per ongoing property rates in the area.

Apparently, the plot being allocated for the new CBD-Belapur NMMC hospital and medical college was originally marked for the development of either a public park or a museum. However, a civic hospital seemed greatly beneficial to the residents of Navi Mumbai.

Varun Shah, a resident of Nerul, shared, “Who cares about another park in the city – we already have plenty of parks like Nerul Wonders Park, and a museum is just not required. A government medical college imparting quality education and a civic hospital providing effective and affordable treatment to the poor, is what every city needs and we are no different.”

We spoke to some other Navi Mumbai residents as well, who seemed pretty excited about the news of getting a new government hospital in the city.

Khushbu Kothiyal, a Kharghar resident, shared, “The new civic hospital will be a boon for many residents who have to travel all the way to the Vashi NMMC hospital. It will save time and effort of many patients, their relatives and caretakers.”

For those who may be unaware, the Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray had directed CIDCO to seriously consider building a medical college and government hospital in Navi Mumbai.

Taking the matter up as high priority, CIDCO wrote to the NMMC expressing their decision to hand over a plot to them.

As per the information provided by NMMC officials, the civic body was very enthusiastic about the proposal and had initiated the required process.

Navi Mumbai’s residents, as well as civic officials, have been at the receiving end during the pandemic owing to the lack of an advanced civic hospital in the city.

Namrata Gaikwad, a Ghansoli resident, shared, “The new super-speciality civic hospital will be of great help to the residents of Navi Mumbai, only if it provides advanced treatment and medicines at actual affordable prices. The civic authority needs to make effective treatment affordable for city residents.”
