Students from all civic schools in Navi Mumbai are competing
The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) kicked off their ‘Waste to Best’ interschool competition on 9 February 2023, to help engage young students in the city (in all civic schools) and encourage them to come up with their own ways for putting waste to the best use possible. The competition will cover students from class 1 to 9 under the primary, upper primary and secondary sections, and conclude before the last week of February 2023.
NMMC’s Deputy Municipal Commissioner, Solid Waste Management, Babasaheb Rajale, shared the civic body’s vision regarding the entire ‘Waste to Best’ campaign in Navi Mumbai.
“We are determined to spread awareness about the ‘three R’s’ of waste management – Reduce, Reuse and Recycle, through regular competitions in all NMMC schools in Navi Mumbai. We believe that through a constant engaging activity it is very much possible to mould young minds into adopting a way of life that can go a long way into benefitting the environment and the society on a whole.”
“Our objective is to enable these young minds to come up with creative ways of putting waste to the best creative use possible.”
“In the near future, such a habit will help us, as a city, to minimise the quantity of waste dumped without thought every other day. On a broader level it will help us drive our ‘Swachhata’ campaign further.”
The NMMC is hopeful that many students would come up with innovative ideas to recycle solid waste available around them and that the number of students would grow with every such competition.
